This will by far be out longest blog post to date. We have so much to tell you about this absolutely amazing wedding weekend in Charleston, SC! We’re going to break it up into sections and tell the entire story. It’s a must! We were so excited after meeting with Katie. We knew that her attention to detail and amazing style was the perfect combination for perfection! Katie spent her summers vacationing with her family in Charleston and knew that’s where she wanted to marry the love of her life and celebrate with all of their friends and family. Katie & Greg planned a wedding weekend nobody would forget and we can’t wait to share it with you!
As always before a wedding weekend, we’re watching the weather constantly. Katie and Greg were to be married on Friday. On this particular Friday, they were calling for Hurricane Hermine to hit Charleston. Seriously? This can’t be happening. We arrived in Charleston on Thursday to shoot the Rehearsal Dinner at the historic Mills House Hotel. Oh, the charm of this city is like no other! Please Hermine don’t ruin this for us! We want to take advantage of the colors and architecture with this beautiful couple!
The Mills House was perfect for Katie & Greg’s Rehearsal. The night was full of laughter and style! Check out Greg’s custom Tom James suit. These two have style for days. Sidenote….After the rehearsal we walked to 82 Queen and had a delicious Southern meal and swear that Billy Bob Thornton and his wife were dining next to us! OMG!
It’s now Friday morning and Charleston is in full Hurricane mode. We took a walk to some shops near our hotel and just about every store was closing. A sweet girl working in Francesca’s explained to us that downtown Charleston will close roads due to flooding and that we might not even be able to make it down there if things got worse. Panic set in. Are we going to be able to get to The Mills House where Katie is getting ready? How are all the guests going to get from the hotel to the plantation? So many unanswered questions. The weather didn’t seem too bad, but Charleston doesn’t mess around when it comes to Hurricanes. As each hour passed the weather got worse.
We were in our hotel room just about to get ready when the phone rang. It was Katie and she was on a mission to make her dreams come true. The conversation went a little something like this. “Hi! So….we’re thinking about changing everything. What if we get ready, keep the day as planned, but skip the ceremony and pictures and only have the reception tonight. The ceremony and pictures will be moved to tomorrow? Do you think you can make this work?” Britt called Southwest and changed our flights, we called our husbands and told them we’d be in Charleston till Sunday and that was that. Yes, Katie and Greg were about to celebrate their marriage before they were even married and it was the best decision they ever made! The forecast on Saturday was calling for sunshine which meant Katie and Greg’s outdoor wedding would go on and their bridal portraits would be outside. Woo hoo! These two changed everything! All the amazing vendors worked together and made this happen!
The Mills House is so beautiful and chic. The jewel tones were stunning! The perfect location for some pre-reception pictures when there’s a hurricane outside. Let’s be honest, this couple needs to be on a magazine cover!
Here we are about to enter the Cotton Dock at Boone Hall Plantation! This day just keeps getting better, doesn’t it? When you pull into Boone Hall you drive through two rows of evenly spaced Oak Trees. There are massive, moss-draped branches that meet overhead forming a natural corridor. It’s magical! Katie and Greg’s details inside the barn are beyond beautiful. They truly didn’t miss a thing. It was so gorgeous, so romantic and so much fun! These two killed their first dance! Oh and did we mention that Greg aka Rampage gave a full on performance and sang Piano Man to his bride and guests. It was amazing! And to top off the night, Katie and Greg exited through a tunnel of Sparklers and drove away in a vintage Rolls Royce. We can’t wait for you to see these beautiful reception images, so we’re going to stop talking and let you look. Be prepared to pick your jaw up off the floor.
It’s day two! We woke up to a beautiful sunny day! Katie and Greg were married on the front lawn of Boone Hall Plantation. You wouldn’t have had a clue that these two and all their guests partied the night away the night before. Watching these two finally get married was so beautiful! Their families and friends were all so fun, kind and there to celebrate two people they love so much. The setting was beyond gorgeous.
After the ceremony we hopped on a super cool vintage trolley to take us around Charleston for pictures. Our first stop was Rainbow Row where the colors were fabulous and really captured the charm of Charleston. We’re telling you, if you haven’t been to Charleston, it’s a must! Katie and Greg are so much fun to photograph. Their chemistry is electric and it shows in each and every picture. The love this weekend was magical. We feel so honored to have been a part of this amazing wedding. It was a photographers dream.
