There really is only one reason you should have an unplugged wedding and really this one reason is all you need. An unplugged wedding is when you ask your guests kindly to turn off their phones and put them away for the entire evening. If not the entire evening, at least the ceremony. Most all of us are addicted to our phones, but a wedding is the one day to shut it off and have fun! The bride and groom and their families have spent a lot of money on professional wedding photographers, leave the job to them. You should be in the audience smiling at the bride as she walks down the aisle gushing over how gorgeous she looks!
So many of our couples have asked their guests in a kind way to “unplug.” Here are a few creative ways in doing so.
- Place a sign by the guest book so everyone can see it before heading to their seats.
- Ask your officiant to make an announcement at the beginning of the ceremony.
- Have it printed on your program.
There are so many times where a guest will step out into the isle in hopes to get a great shot of the bride coming down the aisle, what they don’t know is that they’re blocking our view. The walk down the aisle is one of the most important images from your wedding day. The last thing you want in your photograph is one of your guests in the aisle holding their phone or worse yet, ipad. This goes for video too! Please, if you want your ceremony on video, please hire a professional. If you’ve asked a family member or friend to record the ceremony, please have them stand in the back of the church. Do not place them in an aisle seat and have them extend their arm out into the aisle the entire ceremony. You don’t want a random arm and phone in all of your professional ceremony pictures.
