Name: Melinda McCallinhart (maiden name McCallin) and Patti McCallinhart ( maiden name Shamhart)
Wedding date: 9/12/2015
Grooms Name: Patti calls herself the “broom” because she was a bride but was kind of like the groom. She got the smaller dressing suite and waited for me when I walked down the aisle.
Venue: Franklin Park Conservatory/Palm House/West Terrace
Do you have your dress? If so, how many dresses did you try on before finding the one?
Patti: Yes, it was the second dress I tried on, but I tried on probably 12 total.
Melinda: Yes, and I probably tried on 7-8 dresses before I found my dress.
What is your vision for your wedding day? We were going for a botanical themed fairy tale. We had a tree theme incorporated in a lot of our décor because we like what trees represent symbolically-how they grow and change, but still have roots to keep them strong, much like the nature of a relationship.
How many guests have you invited to your wedding? We had around 100 attend.
Where will you be honeymooning? Hawaii! We’ll be on the island of Oahu in Honolulu.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to other brides in the process of planning their dream wedding? Don’t sweat some of the small details since no one will remember that level of minutiae anyway. Take a few moments during the wedding to just breathe and take it all in. Steal away from everyone for just a few moments to be alone together and realize it’s not about the flowers, the cake, or the dress-it’s about this amazing person who is promising to be a witness to your life, to see you through the best and worse that the world has to offer, and who accepts you and loves you just the way you are. At the end of the day if you have that, then you have everything you need and more.
What’s your favorite date spot? For a casual date, we love going to Union since that is where we had dinner on our first date. For a special occasion type date, we enjoy going to Lindey’s. Gallery Hop will always have a place of honor for our top date ideas as well.
Band or DJ? We had a string quartet for the ceremony and cocktail hour followed by a DJ for the reception.
Do you consider yourself a traditional bride? If not, what are some fun things you did outside the box? Absolutely, we even had the traditional additional bride. It’s almost like a buy one, get one free type deal. In all seriousness though, even though this is new territory, we wanted to keep some sense of tradition, but we didn’t want to be entirely conventional. We wanted everything to feel personal and to feel like it was “us.” We crafted our own ceremony, had a friend officiate the wedding, wrote our own vows, had bridesmen and bridesmaids in the wedding party, and instead of throwing a bouquet of flowers, we threw a bouquet of chocolates.
What are your wedding colors? Lapis (purple) and silver.
We’ve all heard the Celebrity couples nicknames like Bennifer, Kimye and Brangelina. What would your nickname be? We ended up combining our last names to form McCallinhart, but for a first name combo we would be Palinda. It reminds us of an endangered panda.
